Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program

在2019 - 2022, 11 Bryn Mawr and Haverford STEM majors will receive $15,000 scholarships to be used to pursue secondary teacher certification in the Bryn Mawr/Haverford Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Program. In exchange for the scholarships, recipients agree to teach for at least two years in a high-needs school district. In addition to the scholarships, the project will support the professional development of Scholars through their active and continuous engagement in a cohort-based learning community during their student teaching year and for their first two years of in-service teaching. Scholars will receive 导师 support and opportunities for professional development. 

必威网页登录APP正版下载 is one of six partner institutions included in the $1.45 million collaborative award granted to the Philadelphia Regional Noyce Partnership (PRNP) by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to recruit, 教育, 导师, 并留住STEM教师. 

The Philadelphia Regional Noyce Partnership–Scholarship partner institutions include Arcadia University, 必威网页登录APP正版下载, Community College of Philadelphia, 拉萨尔大学, Saint Joseph’s University and Temple University, with Saint Joseph’s University being the lead institution on the project. 维克多Donnay, William Kenan Professor of Mathematics (vdonnay@thespadabin.com), leads the 必威网页登录APP正版下载 component of the project. 

整体, the project aims to recruit over the next four years, 55 new STEM teachers from the PRNP-S Partner Institutions with the goal of:

• Increasing the number of STEM majors that enter and remain in teaching in high-need schools in the Philadelphia region
• Increasing the social capital of Noyce program participants at all levels
• Increasing Noyce teachers’ understanding of Culturally Responsive Teaching practices
• Increasing Noyce teachers’ knowledge of Education for 可持续性 content and pedagogical practices

Background

The Philadelphia Regional Noyce Partnership-Scholarship program is an initiative of the Philadelphia Regional Institute for STEM Educators (奖赏) which in addition to the above six institutions also includes Drexel University, 宾夕法尼亚大学, 西切斯特大学, the Philadelphia Education Fund. 在过去的八年里， 奖赏 has received several grants from the National Science Foundation to support STEM teacher preparation and development. They received an initial two-year $300,000 grant (2011-14) to build the capacity of the Noyce programs in the region and a second grant (2014-16) to develop and pilot a comprehensive new teacher support program for Noyce Scholars. 综上所述, these programs represent more than 200 math and science pre-service, 新手, early career and master teachers, a valuable resource for school districts in the Philadelphia area. The Application Process for the Noyce STEM Teacher Scholarship will open on October 1, 2021. Deadline for the Round I submission is March 1, 2022.  Subject to the availability of funds, the application will remain open until May 1, 2022 在滚动基础上.
